A Report totally ignores the sort order of the query upon which it is based.
Specify the sort order in the Report's Sorting and Grouping window. Right
click the little square at the upper left intersection of the rulers in design
view and select "Sorting and Grouping".

The order in the report must be set in the report. Use the Sorting and
Grouping dialog in report design.

If your date field is truly a date field it should sort in chronological
order.

Two things to consider:

1. Reports don't care about how the query sorts records. Not at all. You
need to do any sorting and grouping in the report itself. In fact you can
often speed up a big report by removing any sorting in the query that its
built upon.

2. If the "date" is actually a text field that looks like a date, or you use
certain functions like the Format function, it could sort as text instead of
a date. For example the April records will show before the January records.
