Ok.. here is my situation at hand, and any advice or help would be much
appreciated.

My sis has a six month old laptop, and for some reason all of a sudden it
started to get a few errors at boot (I dont know what they were - she forgot)
then it started to BSOD at boot time and go into a continous loop never
pausing longer than a half a second for me to read the BSOD info. So that
computer is all under warrenty so I am not worried about the PC but I took
her HD out and using an adapter hooked her laptop hd into my desktop to burn
all her personal info off before she has to return the unit or whatnot.
Anyway the pickle is this, once her HD is hooked up it wont let me access her
user files because sje had this user password protected.. we have the
password, but that is useless now, right? How can I get into the files so I
can make copies of everything? Is there anywhere I can put in the PW so I can
access her files?

Password ? - You would normally just be faced with ACL, where you
would need to add your username or take ownership of files/folders.
Actually, some vendors recommend removing the drive before RMA'ing
it back to them. If you have imaging software, I would just do a image
of the drive/partitions with a verify pass. Maybe you can explain about
the password thing - it's not EFS encryption is it ?

You have to take ownership of the files.

After resolving the password issue, tell your sister that
it's not a good idea to defer backing up important files
until disaster stares her in the face. She has to do this
regularly, e.g. once a week. A hard disk in an external
USB case is a low-cost and highly effective backup medium!

See this link on how to take ownership of a file or folder:

HOW TO: Take Ownership of a File or Folder in Windows XP

Or from Start | Help and Support type ownership in the search box.

I trust that opening your sister's laptop and taking bits out of it has not
voided the manufacturer's warranty!
