Computer freezes in safe mode

My sis has a computer that was working fine this morning. She was
prompted for an update downlaod for McAfee. Without remembering that
we had just eliminated McAfee in favor of AOL's protection she
answered "Yes" and the message box said it has successfully
downloaded.

Now she is unable to boot up her computer, even in safe mode. She is
prompted for her password, enters it, and then nothing happens. She
has shut down and restarted with the same result multiple times.

She is in TX and I'm in WI. She is not very computer literate, so any
"simple" explanations would be helpful, and I will translate into
"her" language. Thanks in advance for any thoughts or ideas.

Regards,
Fred

Hi Fred,
While starting the Puter tell her to tap F8 until she get the Boot options
and select Last good Known Configuration or start up, if she logged ON, tell
Her to perform a System Restore to before the Update or to another Date
before the Download took place.
HTH.
let us know.

If none of the options work in the Advanced Options menu (Safe Mode is one
of the options as well as Safe Mode with Command Prompt and Last Known Good
Configuration), then the next step is a repair install.
