Da Vote: Move the Pricelessware site

When Susan first posted, my instinct was that the person doing the
work should choose the working environment that best suited her. After
what has transpired in the last week or so, I am less convinced that
was the actual reason for the various threads.

Agreed. A vote was totally unnecessary.
Susan first posted that Genna's plans for a change were vague and that
was why she brought the matter up in the newsgroup. What followed was
that Genna answered the questions which were directed at her while
Susan was selective and evasive when tackling questions asked of her.
Exactly.

We were asked to vote twice on a move. Other than Susan's arguments
that the site was fine as it was and that there was no need for the
change that Genna had planned, we were given no insight as to why that
was necessary.
Yep.

Now, we are told that the new site will be different
and that it will involve various people.
Susan has not been forthcoming with information, holding back both in
form and content. While I don't believe that a vote is needed (1), it
would be more honest for Susan to outline what her true plans are
before we are asked to take a vote. As of now, it does appear that
Susan is the one manipulating us for control of the list by being less
than frank with us.

Yep. Character assassination of Genna and total control of everything
to do with the PL list appear to be the motivations here.
(1) Is there anything stopping anyone from creating a pricelesseware
page if they so desire? The key issue is the vote for the programs
that make up the list, is it not?

You are totally correct. There is nothing is stopping anyone creating
a PL list. One existed before Susan came here one will probably exist
when she leaves after her next tantrum.

Regards, John.

If Susan is to continue to
do all of the work, the format must be something SUSAN is familiar and
comfortable with, and if moving the list to another host site is the
only way that Susan can continue her volunteer work,

"If" being the operative word. Did Genna say Susan couldn't continue
in her current format ? I don't think so. My understanding was that
Genna was simply suggesting a change.
then the list must
be moved to another location.
Got it yet?

Yep. That is EXACTLY what I have been saying all along. If Susan wants
to move elsewhere then she should do so.

Glad you agree with me at last. :)

Regards, John.

she refuses to let it go.

Hi John,

I am as certain as you that no such post exists. It's nice to discover
that we agree on *something*.

Genna has stated many times that participants in the newsgroup are the
decision makers. In her most recent post (2004-06-28) Genna said:

While I may own the domain, I have never abused the privilege.

The decision to move the Pricelessware web site became final today. I'm
sure the newsgroup will hear from SOS and/or Genna in the very near future.

hi "Olaf Janson", welcomed. Do you have any freeware to post?
BTW, I see that you are using Outlook Express. What do you
think about Xnews? In addition, what is your favourite
firewall program?

[why don't we start taking about freeware instead of engaging
in seemingly trolling activities, thanks]

Why do you taunt me? I have been talking about freeware. The freeware
listed at www.pricelessware.org , which has been provided by Susan these
many years.
Perhaps it is time for you to take a break from this group, as well.

I still question the NEED to move. On 6/25 Henk de Jong informed the group
his attempts at mediation between you two has failed because only Genna has
been willing to put the issues on the table to work on.

"I regret to tell you that my effort to mediate in the PL issue failed.
Genna was the only one who contacted me, but I didn't receive any response
from Susan. With kind regards, Henk de Jong"

Why have you not been willing to do the same?

Unfortunately this vote has turned into a popularity contest between you and
Genna. People are letting their fears and/or dedication to you overrule
their sense of right and wrong. I am new enough to this group to not know
of Genna's involvement until the Irreconcilable Differences thread, but am
seeing more and more that it is your DESIRE to break the relationship that
has come down to this. It's really not too late to back out of this road
you're travelling down.

The vote must be closed at some point. Or perhaps you suggest an open
ended voting period which never closes. Or better yet, we can keep
voting on when the voting ends.

Let's just say that the person I voted for was re-elected, and she was
pitted against another MP when the boundaries changed. BTW, we have a
Liberal minority government in Canada now.

Whether Genna has made such a statement or not, is immaterial John.
When two people are at loggerheads, as in this case, it is not
conducive to holding discussions on matters which might involve
monetary considerations as well as possibly having some legal
ramifications.

Susan has stated her intention to act on the word of the group. The
group has expressed its concern about the name/domain. Using Henk, if
he still agrees, as an intermediary is likely to conclude this matter
in favour of the groups wishes, far more quickly than would be the
case if the two protagonists are left to their own devices.

IMO not to try this, and simply to use an alternative name and/or
domain would not be in accord with the groups wishes.

It will be interesting how Martin proceeds considering all the promises
he made during the election. With any kind of luck, a deranged terrorist
from Alymer Quebec will slip into the caucus meeting and...
But I digress.

ROTFL!

You know, if this is the best the Conservatives could do, with Martin
calling the election at the wrong time, the Sponsorship scandal, Martin
running a stupid campaign, and Harper being the darling of the media, they
are in big doo-doo next time.

< snip >

The www.pricelessware.org site has been provided all these years by
the generosity of Genna. It would help things if you got your facts
right. The pricelessware list also existed long before you, and Susan,
ever came here.

J

John Fitzsimons

You are wearing blinders if you think nothing has
changed.

Okay, my error. I meant that there had been no "positive" changes.
There are of course changes. More pointless threads, character
assassination of Genna, more division in the newsgroup etc.

So can Genna. So can SOS. So can you. So can I. Apparently, you, and
others, DO care about what happens. Otherwise there would be NO
argument. Everyone could just "go somewhere else" and be done with it.

Glad that you agree with me. Now that we are agreed that Susan can go
elsewhere these dopey threads can stop. Susan can do the obvious. As
she could have done from post number one.
That is your opinion and I daresay it is wrong.

A pricelessware list can be put on any web site. Guess you know
nothing about web pages eh ?

I am a little hopeful that if the
decision to move wins you might take that as a sign to leave this group
and never return.

< ROFL > Not likely. I was here long before Susan arrived. I expect I
will be her long after her next tantrum and subsequent leaving of the
group.

Regards, John.

This far in to the thread of conversation, it would be considered
taunting.
What do I care of other newsreaders? You use your newsreader and I will
use mine. Other people will use the one they prefer. All is good, no?

And yet, you still contribute to the pointlessness. And do not forget,
your own contribution to Susan's character assassination and division of

Glad that you agree with me. Now that we are agreed that Susan can go

Yet again, you do not live by the standards you set for others. Genna
could do the same and honorably release the domain name to the group's
consensus.
A pricelessware list can be put on any web site. Guess you know

OK, OK... you mock my knowledge of website construction. A list can be
put on any website, but Pricelessware.org is acknowledged as the
official repository of the acf vote. Genna and SOS should voluntarily
"lay down their arms" and submit to the group's best interests.
< ROFL > Not likely. I was here long before Susan arrived. I expect I
will be her long after her next tantrum and subsequent leaving of the

You may have been here before Susan arrived, but I suspect you will be
gone shortly after this group officially sanctions the latest changes.
Then, much later, you will return to the group to see how things are
going.

Godwin's Law now gives way to Olaf's Law... "As a Usenet discussion
grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Terrorists
approaches one." You, John Fitzsimons, are a newsgroup Terrorist.
