Do you have IE8 installed? If so, try uninstalling it:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957700

I have this problem too.. it was after a virus infected my laptop but
having tried to remove them, that was the only problem that remained.
Obviously nothing to do with the virus but I have no idea how to
remove any updates... if someone could tell me that would be great,
many thanks..

If you need to uninstall IE8, just follow Microsoft's instructions:

No I don't have IE8.

One user (Angie) was able to regain the copy and paste function
after removing this Windows update: KB963027.

I don't recommend undoing Windows updates as a long term solution.

Started having this same problem about 2 weeks ago. It has not resolved
itself and I'm getting tired of IE closing all my tabs and losing the body of
the email in which I was composing. Has there been a fix or not to this
problem that no one else is having? Google it and you will see it is not a
few isolated issues.

Same problem appeared about two weeks ago, no new updates or anything else
that I can think of. Very aggravating!

I reported this problem a few months ago and was told there was no fix...it
was suggested I upgrade to windows live, which I did, but the same thing
happens using that program as well. I just read through this whole thread
and noticed someone suggested pasting into the cc field and then cutting and
pasting from there. This did work for me, though I had to adjust the font
size once my text was in the body of the message. Not the fix I was looking
for but a temporary solution until they fix the problem. Michele Jaeb

I saw somewhere that if you pasted into wordpad thaen you could copy and
paste in Windows mail. I tried that yesterday and it worked. It is a pain but
a solution.

That is a totally different problem than the one being discussed in earlier
messages in this thread. I don't know what the original message said; it is
too old. I suggest creating a new thread; you might get an answer that way.

I tried the copy/past into the cc address box and it worked, I copied it
from the cc and pasted it back into a document and into an e-mail, but the
font is so teeny weeny, how can I change the font to a bigger size, no matter
what I try it still comes up very small.

Thank you
Pauline

Adding to Gary's comment, if after pasting from the address or subject
sections line into the message body, the text is small, click on the format
button of the new mail and change it to HTML and then back to Plain text.

If you do not bother changing it over, it will revert to the correct size
when sent.

Not an IE8 problem this is an old bug from OE days.

I had for gotten about that old OE bug, which affects plain text mode.
Good catch!

I use plain-text format by default and that type of thing happens to me a
lot. The best solution is to have a plaint-text editor such as notepad open
so that you can paste to it first then copy and paste from that. It is an
inconvenient extra step but many times it is more convenient than
alternatives. Another trick I learned years ago from a newsgroup is, if you
are using plain-text format, after pasting text that gets extra formatting
such as the font size, change the format of the message to Rich Text (HTML)
and then back to plain-text.

Ooops, I did not see this before replying with essentially the same
suggestion.

The problem is that along with the font formats, there are often extra line
breaks and I am not sure the extra line breaks go away. I don't know if that
applies to the situation where the CC field is used as a temporary area. I
personally don't like seeing the extra line breaks, even if I don't mind the
fonts.
