Well, Crysis is now crashing regularly on my machine.

I'm at the Relic Stage, in the Graveyard Extraction Point where the Koreans turn up in Nano suits for the first time.

These issues happen, no particular order or sequence:

a) Game seizes, sound loop.
b) Exits to desktop, with or without Microsoft error Window.
c) Plain black screen, system seized.
d) Shrunken desk top, missing desktop pic, have to reboot.

I have:

a) Set res to recommended 1024 x 768
b) Allowed game to default to recommended settings (which is all on 'High')
c) Disabled anti-aliasing
d) Installed Nvidia Beta drivers 169.04

All to no avail, my spec is in my sig.

I have not, as yet, disabled shadows, I've just thought of that.

This machine is running all of these games, all at high or max res, no problems:

Bioshock
CoD4 Multi & Single
CoD2 Multi & Single
CoD1 Multi & Single
FEAR & Extraction Point Multi & Single
Oblivion Elder Scrolls 4
The Orange Box (Everything HL2)
Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 & 2 expansion packs
Civilisation 4 & Warlords
Need For Speed Most wanted
Microsoft Flight Simulator X
Stalker: Chernobyl
Call Of Juarez.

It seems I'm not alone experiencing this problem, see this thread at the EA Forums:

El Crasho

The game was mostly running fine although it had crashed about six times up to that point in the game.

If a system like mine is having problems, what chance lesser specs?

Anybody else here running Crysis without probs on similar or lesser spec?

I do look forward to Crytek's first patch, is all I can say.

Unlucky Flops, thats not good, have you tried installing the latest sound drivers? Remember reading about that somewhere. :)

Also apparently the first patch should be out in about a week.

Sorry to say but its fine here, not one crash so far.

Sound drivers are up to date, V1.4.78. Oh well.

I've also defragged and I'm not crunching on this machine (the other three are, before folks get upset ;) )

Fair enough, i take it theres nothing in the event viewer then?

Does it just freeze? I had the same issues with CoD4. a) in your previous post. (freezing and sound looping.) Was fixed with the first patch.

Sorry not much help i know. :(

Shot in the dark maybe, and probably doubtful, but your GPU aint overheating is it?

Seems the patch will be mostly fixes for MP..Sorry flops, still may fix it though. :)

Crytek has explained that its first patch for Crysis will be nothing major in an update on the progress of the first fix.

It's informed that the patch will address overall performance and multiplayer balancing ("adjustments to LAW and Grenade balance in multiplayer").

For sale: One mint copy of Crysis ;)

No, my GPU isn't overheating, look at all the games I listed that are running ok.

I would have thought that my system, though not top of the tree, would be capable of running all new releases.

I suspect Crytek haven't quite got it right.

Damn shame, I was thoroughly enjoying that game, mist off the water at night, brilliant graphics, shame it appears to be unstable :(

And I refuse to spend £320.00 on an Ultra or GTX, my next big purchase will be a 32" TV, I thought when I purchased the GTS a year ago it would do for a while. Ho hum.

Mind you, it's only Crysis, everything else runs great.

Didn't think so, was an outside bet. Although i always have Rivatuner in the task bar when gaming, and believe it or not, when playing crysis, it always runs a little hotter than CoD4 etc....

Sorry, i'm out of ideas now. Guess its just time to see what the patch brings. Just have to concentrate on your CoD4 rank until then!! :D

V_R: I do apreciate your input, thanks for trying to help :)

I'll install that RivaTuner, note temp, just out of interest.

But not tonight ;)

No worries. :)

Do you have Nvidia Ntune installed? You could try and ramp the fan speed up to 100% from the default 60% see if that helps, But i dont think it is overheating tbh, that was a longshot and in the 900 with all that air flow, its unlikely.

Ntune less messing about if you want to try it. Although once i use RT i was hooked, its just so handy. :)

Have you tried reinstalling the game?

Right, it appears to be working ok again now

Here's what I done:

Uninstalled and reinstalled the game. Saved old user profile and saved games. Did not install Punkbuster and Gamespy Arcade.

Installed Riva Tuner and made the three heat profiles the same as the author showed in his tutorial, basically over 55C >> Fan 80% and Over 60C >> Fan 100%

That's a nifty piece of free software but not the most user friendly.

Machine idle, fan on 100%: Fan speed 2690rpm; Core temp: 53C; Ambient temp: 38

Set user temp/fan profile: Temp hovering between 55C & 56C, fan at 80% 2054rpm

Played Crysis. On exiting core temp was 63C but fan was only running at 80%, I'll have to check that profile again. Ambiet temp after playing Crysis was 46C

Other figures for the BFG 640Mb 8800GTS:

Core Clock ROP Domain: 513
Core Clock Shader Domain: 1188
Memory Clock: 792

I haven't tried overclocking yet but if Crysis remains stable then I will do.

Thanks for recommending that Riva Tuner V_R, it's well good :thumb:

Don't know why I didn't install it earlier...

Whatever next? Will I install Crossfire?

Just picked up a copy of Overdose which is the next and third part of Painkiller for £12.50 at GAME, I liked the first two so I'll be loading that up shortly. It's not clear whether it's a stand alone expansion pack or whether I'll have to install Painkiller Black Edition again.

Ah, yes, i never installed Gamespy the first time, dont like it dont want it.

Yeah, once you get use to it, you will woder how you got on without it! But i agree, its a bit odd odd to start with.

Machine idle, fan on 100%: Fan speed 2690rpm; Core temp: 53C; Ambient temp: 38

That sounds like good temps. :)
Heres a tip, open the hardware monitor and click the red circle button at the botton, like this...

1196533149.jpg

Then when you close the monitor, play game, finish game and reopen the monitor it will show you the temps on the graph. :)

Other figures for the BFG 640Mb 8800GTS:

Core Clock ROP Domain: 513
Core Clock Shader Domain: 1188
Memory Clock: 792

had the same problem as flops (freeze and sound repeat) but the game corrected itself after the 4th time :p
