Cryptographic Services Precludes Virus Update

In attempting to load the latest Blaster patch, I get the
error message that "Setup could not verify the integrity
of the file update information. Make sure the
cryptographic serice is running on this computer." This
is a Dell running Windows XP Home. I searched the
Knowledge Base and found a similar problem when loading
SP1 for which the solution was to disable crypto, rename
the CATROOT2 file, and restart services. I attempted this
but got the same error message. Any help? anyone?
