CPU Usage by OUTLOOK

When launching OUTLOOK and when selecting email in the inbox to read, the cpu
usage pegs at 100% and outlook remains in a hung condition for a long time.
Eventually the email will open but this is repeated with each attempt to
open. Using Window XP operating system and Outlook 2003. It appears taht
Outlook is the only piece of the operating suite to do this.
