Outlook CPU usage

T

Terry

On opening Outlook everything runs fine, but the CPU usage slowly climbs to
100% over about 4 minutes, Outlook responds slower until the OS times the
application out as 'not responding'. Any causes of this problem please?

Terry,

Check your task manager processes to determine what is taking up the CPU
usage. Some thing that can cause this in Outlook anti-virus program,
anti-spyware program and firewalls can cause this type of issue as they
"communicate" directly with Outlook. Outlook can also be clocking on its own
as result of trying to communicate.

First, check what is taking up the CPU usage time. If it is actually Outlook
then make sure you have it up-to-date with all the necessary patches. Check
that it is able to communicate affectivitly and that nothing is running in
the background

Hello Francine,

It is Outlook that consumes CPU time, gets to 100% before the OS terminates
it.

Hello Francine,

I have determined that it's not any anti-virus software. Outlook only goes
critical after closing the GUI, it remains in the running services at 100%
before timing out.

There may be something in the background trying to communicate with the
program.

Make sure your office and windows are updated.

Run anti-spyware on the system e.g. Ad-aware or Spybot Search and Destroyer.

Your anti-virus may be checked to scan emails. Disable the anti-virus (ONLY
TEMPORARILY) to see if this improves it.

Also run detect and repair on Outlook. May need to do reinstall if these do
not work.
