"Corrupt" downloads?

"The file you are downloading cannot be opened by the default program. It is
either corrupted or it has an incorrect file type. As a security precaution,
it is recommended that you cancel the download."

Well obvious that's a lie, since if i save it to my hard-drive, it in fact
CAN be opened by the default program. It is not corrupted nor does it have
an incorrect file type.

So what gives? What esoteric option must i now deploy to my LAN to make ie
believe that the file is in fact okay?

From the server:
Filename: knifetricks3.mpeg
Content Type: video/mpeg

From my registry:
HKCR\MIME\Database\Content Type\video/mpeg
Extension: mpeg

HKCR\.mpeg
Content Type: video/mpeg

What the f is wrong?

Have you upgraded XP to SP2? That's caused a lot of confusion with IE 6.
Seems IE 6 is overly protective of what gets downloaded now, so you have to
tweak some settings somewhere. Probably info on M$ site.

I have seen the similar behaviour... after i loaded SP2 on XP pro i
couldn't hit sample mpegs or music files from web pages. When using my
default account (limited access) it always crashes IE. I found out though
with my administrator account it works. Like Ian said I can save them and
then open them no problem... this is a pain and I can not find any microsoft
KB doc (or any refernce) to this problem.

pain in the but because i don't want o log in as administrator all the time.

FIX THIS MICROSOFT!!!! I ownder if IE SP1 will fix it..but I doubt it.
