Copy back to Sony Camera

Geoff

Hi I have a sony DSC P72 and everything copies fine from
camera to PC using WXP facilities and USB link.

I want then to do some very basic editing and then copy
back to the camera so that I can show via the standard
video cable link in my TV.

The Sony site says "copying files to camera is not
recommended in case of file corruption"(!). I've tried
just using Explorer to copy all the .jpg's to the K:
(Memory stick)\DCIM\100MSDCF folder - but when I try to
play back on the camera I get "No file in this folder"
message on the camera. Any suggestions please?

Thanks in advance
Geoff

You can copy back original files and your camera should be able to read
them. However, the files must be original.
Each camera uses a specific algorithm to compress the data into a JPG file.
If you open the file and edit it, the software in your computer will use a
different algorithm to compress the file and your camera will not be able to
open it.
Also, you cannot change the name of the file to something other than the 8
characters system used by your camera. Your camera will not be open the
file.
If you did this, you can rename the file using your camera system:
DSCO followed by 4 numbers and .jpg such as:
DSCO0001.jpg

So, try it with an original file and see if it works. Sure corruption could
happen when copying back to your memory stick, but the corrupted file would
be on the memory stick and if so you can copy again. File corruption is
likely to happen when transmission is interrupted because of low battery or
disconnection with the USB port.

Thanks Yves very helpful - I have a few corruptions
(about 6 out of 150) but I suspect that's because I've
rotated them on the PC not on the camera and then tried
to return them to the camera. I now know what I need to
do in future! Best wishes Geoff
