Control Panel weirdness

B

Bernie Kilshaw

When I try to open Control Panel I get a the following message:

Banner Line: skyres32.dll
Message Text: The requested program cannot be started due to a missing dll
file.

When I click on OK the message box closes and Control Panel opens.

This dll was associated with software I installed to provide me with a
satellite based DSL service (SkyDSL).

I deinstalled the product and since then get the message.

I've searched through the registry and deleted any relevant keys but am
still getting the message.

I used the Sysinternals tool Filemon to try to track the process and it
seems to be associated with svchost.exe but again a registry search didn't
help.

I've scanned the registry with various tools, again no joy.

Does anybody have any suggestions as to where I should look?

TIA,

Bernie

How did you uninstall SkyDSL? You should have done it through Add /
Remove Programs in Control Panel.

Hope this helps.

Some things to try:

Open the Run box and enter regsvr32 /u skyres32.dll
Ignore any error messages.

Open 'Start Menu-->Search' and search for "skyres32.dll"
(with quotes) and delete when/if found.

You searched the whole Registry for skyres32.dll ?
If not, do so.
