I have been having a strange problem with WinXP Pro.
When I try to access the Networking icon in Control Panel, it opens the
Networking tools very briefly (less thana second), and then Control
Panel closes by itself. After this, the taskbar and system tray appear
to restart (all the icons clear and then come back one-by-one, just
like when XP is booting up, only much quicker).
Sometimes the Networking tools don't appear at all before Control Panel
closes down. Sometimes, even trying to start Control Panel itself
(without going into the Networking section) produces the same result:
Control Panel closes, the taskbar resets.
My IT person at the office suggested re-installing Internet Explorer,
as he recently had a similar problem and that fixed it. I tried this
(got the full 75M download of IE6), but it didn't help.
Everything else seems to be working okay.
I have scanned with two different virus scanners and found nothing.
I'm very puzzled by this and would like to solve it. Any help would be
greatly appreciated.
