Continual Search Engine Errors

S

Steve

In the past two months our IE6 has lost the ability to
access virtually ANY search engine. When Google or Lycos
are typed into the address bar, we get an error message
from cPanel saying, "There is no website configured at
this address." We can browse the internet, and can even
PING to the Google and Lycos sites with success, but
cannot access them directly.

In attempting to use search engines from other websites
(MSN, Yahoo, etc.) we receive the following message:

"NOT FOUND
The requested URL/spresults.aspx was not found on this
server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while
trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request."

We have cleared all temporary online/offline files,
deleted all cookies, and pulled all privacy and security
settings down to the "very vulnerable" stage. We have
even reset all IE6 controll settings to their original
state.

We have been through three customer service & technical
support lines from SBC/Yahoo (our provider), and nothing
has helped. Tech support maintains that it is a problem
with IE6. We have performed a software "repair" of IE6
under the Add/Remove programs window, and this had no
effect either.

We're hoping that someone else out there has had some
experience with this happening in the past, and can shed
some light on our very perplexing problem.

Thank you.

Try renaming your hosts file to hosts.old, it may be
corrupted by some adware.
