Hi there I am trying to connect a older 8GB SEAGATE ide hard drive via a ext

however on this older drive I has problem seeing it, in other words it loads
the usb drivers and states that it is ready to use and ect, but does not show
in my computer, nor is it visable anywhere else, any ideas? i have a lot of
important old stuff on this drive please help if poss:

Install it internally as a slave and see if it can be read
at all. Transfer the data. An 8 GB drive is probably 10
years old and it can certainly have problems in hardware or
firmware.

It should probably have the jumpers set as master when you
put it in the enclosure, but check that too.

Does it show up in disk management? One possibilty is that a drive
manager was installed to the old drive, in which case it may have a
non native type in the partition structure.

Hi i will kill 2 birds one stone, I think bill maybe right: because it
doesn't show up in disc managment at all, a friend of mine mentioned
something about converting the drive so it would show there, however he not
sure how to do it without losing data:

to answer jim, yes i have tried booting it in old machine however I cant use
it unless i redo xp again:

Actually, just the opposite. I was thinking maybe the volume(s) would show
up as "Unknown" in DM. The fact that the drive doesn't show up at all in DM
suggests a hardware problem. Does it show in device manager?

Right click "My Computer" > "properties" > "hardware" > "device manager"
expand + "Disk drives"

Not sure what you mean? Is disk2 the afflicted disk? If so, is it not showing
as dynamic?

It may be time for file recovery measures. R-Studio is one option. Run the demo
and see if it can find your files. After/If you get your files off, you can wipe the disk and
repartition/reformat it.

Anyway Thanks for site, it was very good! so I have acessed drive ect,
there's no prob with erros or anything, I dont get why I cant see it: this
soft picks it up perfectly!

theres something i have to do for it to recognise it... in the software (R
studios) the file formats for other
drives are fine, either NTFS SATA or FAT... the seagate 8gb one is showing
as neither, it shows as USB ( 136 26 ) ???

In the little screen to the left in demo prg it shows the OS object as
\\.\ physicaldrive1:

Thanks for your advice so far, please add further if any idea, oh and do you
know where i can get that software or similar for free!
