Concerns About Installing MSO-027 and 030 Security Updates

I have a Dell Dimension 8200 computer with windows XP Pro installed. My
computer is for standalone use only and I do not do any games over the
internet.
I also have NAV 2003, ZoneAlarm Plus 4, and BoClean installed. Any guidance
regarding these two security updates would be very much appreciated.

MSO-027 (821557) - Should I install this update, and if so, has this
generally
been a safe install for most windows XP computers?

MSO-030 (819696) - Is DirectX used in normal internet surfing,
especially if the computer is not used for gaming on the internet? Should I
install this update, and if so, has this generally been a safe install for
most windows XP computers? Is DirectX a feature that can be uninstalled,
and if so, would the average computer user ever miss its features?

I have not had any problems. One is not a statistic, however. You can
do your own analysis by entering these numbers in Google Groups and
reviewing the responses. OTOH, MS is generally pretty good at doing at
least minimal quality assurance on these updates. There will always be
a small number of failures in the population of tens of millions of
updates, so there is no *absolute* guarantee.

BTW, there is, as always, no one compelling users to update.
