computer won't restart normally

I have been having this problem for some time. After I'm on for awhile,
usually the net, my computer slows down considerably. It is hard to open
files, and web pages forget it. Then it usually freezes. When I attempt to
restart, three or four windows pop up, e.g. iexplore shutting down, I end
task and it says program not responding. It does this for number of programs
before it lets me reboot. I have the same problem with outlook express, it
freezes and also says program not responding. Once I reboot, it's okay for
awhile. I have restored a couple of times, reinstalled word (thought this
may be the problem) but nothing works. My warranty just ran out, what else
is new, it's only a year old and I have plenty of memory.

Please help, if you can

If you are on a dial-up connection and your system is using what is known as
a WinModem, that could be the issue as these are controllerless modems that
run off of your processor.

If you are not on dialup, if you have a graphics card that is sharing memory
with main system memory as opposed to having its own onboard memory, that
could be this issues as well.

We need more information. In the case of the two above items, the fix would
be to replace the WinModem with a modem that has its own controller and
replace the graphics card with one that has its own memory.

Mike:
I think I know what the problem is. Something to do with language timing. I
was told to get xp sp1 which I did and I'm still having problems. Do you
have any suggestions? Could the sp have caused this? Would restoring help?
Apparently this is a problem Microsoft was aware of with xp and sp1 should
fix the problem, not!
