My computer freezes when.....

Each time I right click on the task bar my computer freezes. A cntrl/alt/del
brings up the task manager (sometimes) but it stays in wait status so I can't
see what programs are not responding. The only solution is to shut down my
computer and restart. I often shut down and restart several times a day.
This can't be good for my computer but I don't know where to look for the
problem. Any suggestions?
