Computer reboots on login to W2K

Everytime I login to the desktop or the network, the
computer reboots (Windows 2000 Professional). Any idea
what may be going on?

Give us a little more information, what do you see? Are
there any warnings on your screen? Do you actually get to
see your desktop??

No warnings, nothing at all. It simply goes to reboot and
reboots and gives you the prompt to login. Once you login
it will reboot again! If you do a safemode login, the same
thing happens and a blue screen with some message shows up
but it goes off in a fraction of a second and is
impossible to read. Thanks!

Sorry Abe,

Not funny, I know.

Try to do a Repair with your ERD and Full Backup.
Or you an do an inplace upgrade.

Don,
If you cannot see or even get to the Start menu, how do
you suppose one can do what you suggested earlier on? THe
problem is that you cannot login at all (to the desktop or
to a network) - it starts to reboot. Even login in a safe
mode makes the computer reboot. The interesting thing is
that if you type the wrong login name or password, it does
not reboot and tells you that you that it could not log
you in. On the other hand, if you type the correct login
and password it will reboot. Virus perhaps?

Abe,

You can perform an inplace upgrade with the 4 boot diskettes and your CD. I was in a hurry
before and didn't realize you couldn't get to the GUI. Sorry about that.

Thanks Don for your help!
The problem has been fixed. We had to re-install the OS!
