Win2k continuously rebooting

Hi there,

Couldn't find the answer on the knowledgebase anywhere. I
have a W2K Pro system, latest patches applied, that
continuously reboots.

Startup works normally until the point where the login
screen would come up. At that point, the system reboots.

KB 258098 doesn't apply since this isn't a system upgraded
from Win98 w/ an HP5000.

KB 185322 doesn't apply because we have not tried to
install NT4 over W2k.

I tried going through the BIOS to see if there was a
setting that was wrong, and barring that, making sure that
PnP was working. Nada.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I assume you have tried Safe Mode?

Have you installed and used the Recovery Console?

.

Oddly enough, yes. The system was checked the day that
it was last turned off, because it had been acting
oddly. It was clean.

And to forestall the next question, I updated the
definitions before I did the virus check.

Are you using updated spyware and adware programs such as Ad-Aware, Spybot
Search & Destroy, Spyware Guard, and Spyware Blaster? They're all free and I
use them all.

Beyond all that, it may simply be that you'll never find the answer and will
have to format the drives and rebuild the system. After working for 11 hours
on an XP system, I finally recommended that they rebuild it.
