Computer freezes for about 5 seconds

My computer freezes up for about 5 seconds a few times a week. First I am
unable to move the cursor then the screen goes black. When the screen comes
back I am able to move the cursor in whatever program I was working in. The
computer does not shut down. Is there a way in Event Viewer or something that
I can use to find out what is causing this to happen. Any help would be
appreciated. I have XP Professional.

what you are describing
is not freezing.

nor do I think you should
expect many of us spend
many minutes, perhaps
hours or days trying to
resolve your meager
5 second per week delay.

Have you 'cleaned' your HDD and scanned with an updated AV (malware)
program lately?

rude, idiot?

seems you fit the bill.

perhaps, you should
provide a solution then,
since you elude not to
be an idiot.

if not, then your opinions
are of little bearing on
the issue at hand.

Unless he's clairovant, I seriously doubt that he can provide a solution for
your own, 20+ characters per line, line wrapping problem. I thought the
VIC-20s were obsolete, anyways.

your "thinking" again.

Check processes and do a comprehensive malware scan. Can't rule out a
hardware issue.
