System freezes regularly

I have Windows XP Professional
My system freezes for 5 to 10 seconds about once every 60 seconds. It does
this like clockwork. The event viewer under security shows " Failure Audit,
Source: Security, Category: Object Access, Event: 560, User: System" This
corresponds almost exactly with the freezes every 60 seconds.
It does not matter what i am doing. If i am typing I can continue and when
the freeze releases all my typing catches up to me. During each episode the
mouse stays active but nothing responds.
What is cycling that is causing this?

Sounds like an issue with Virtual memory and/or not having enough RAM. How
much RAM do you have and how is your pagefile setup? MS suggests the
pagefile be 1.5x the ammount of RAM.

Also try a defrag on your HD.
