Computer Freezes every 30 seconds

Ok this is an odd issue. My computer on Win2000 freezes every thirty
seconds for 5 seconds. It doesnt happen all the time but when it does
it won't stop until I reboot.

I have checked the processes using a utility from sysinternals called
process explorerer and it seems to report that during the freezes (when
the cpu usage spikes (up to around 77 percent) that its during "hardware
interrupts". I have used seagates tools to scan my harddrive for any
problems and none are reported. I have defragged ran just about every
utility i can think of to remove extra services and running programs
etc. Nothing has fixed it. A full virusscan with McAfee's latest
datfiles shows nothing. During the freeze nothing works, screen is not
updated, mouse does not move, etc. This just started happening on
monday after I had left hte computer on for the weekend. When I came in
it was completely frozen so I rebooted and this has happened more often
then not ever since.

Does anyone have any clue how I can fix this?

thanks.

I just found these in my event log i'm assuming this applies but how do
i fix it?

The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk1\DR1.

The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort0, is not ready for access yet.

Sounds like your Disk controller is going bad. This is typically part of the
motherboard so not easily replaced/fixed. You may also have a bad hard
drive. I would make sure everything you want it backed up before letting
this go any longer. This also could be caused by overheating but typically
you don't see any errors, the system just locks up. I would backup, then
reconnect all drives and cables after the system is off ;) and then test
some more.
