I have a Dell laptop computer with the (Dell edition) XP
home Edition upgrade CD. Due to virus issues I had to
reinstall Windows XP twice. The first time worked fine.
The second time, however, it gets to the bit about
preparing files for installation and comes up with the
following error:

** Fatal Error

An error has been encountered that prevents Setup from
continuing. Setup failed to install the product catalogs.
This is a fatal error. **

It then refuses to go any further, restarts itself and
repeats ad nauesium. I do not have a bootable floopy disk.

Is there any way to get out of this loop..?

Thanks

Michael

I saw this same erro on a gateway, they took it back an
installed a new motherboard.
But first CALL DELL and their AWARD WINNING SUPPORT
(snicker)
Oh sorry, couldn't stop laughing at the statement.
Schedule about 2 hours for Dell tech support. Everytime I
have to call, that's how long it takes.
