Comments for Folders

I like to see the columns in windows explorer show Details and with it the
Size, Type, Dat Mod, DAte Created and Comments.

I can edit comments for files in explorer Right Click -> Properties -> Summary
and type in a comment there. But for folders I do not get that option. I
would like to add comments to FOLDERS so I can put some description of what
each folder contains or should contain. I was wondering of an easy way to do
this. This would be helpful if I can do it to our Shared directory on Win2K3
server as well.

so a listing would look like
folder="5.02 Pictures" Comments=Put Site VISIT related pictures in this
folder
thanks

I am also searching for a solution for adding to the comment field, but not
just of folders but of files of all types (esp. video files). Yhe only file
type I see the Summary tab in the Properties on are Office documents. I am
unable to edit those, and other file types don't have the Summary tab.

I am bumping your question in the hope of someone helping both of us.

If anyone knows how to add comments to files and folders, please respond.

I posted to quickly; I have researched more and my problem is with comments
for .avi files only. I can put a comment on an .mpg
When I switch to simple view in Properties Summary, the fields are all
greyed out and I can't enter any info.

I think it is somthing to do with files ability to hold Meta data. I take
folders do not have such capability hence no comments

You will find that you cannot edit the 'file summary' information for .htm
files either. I used to save a lot of web pages as "Web Page (.html only)"
for archival purposes, and realized that I couldn't put comments in. Since
then, the workaround has been to save the pages as a 'web page archive .mht'.
The file sizes are longer, but the images are also saved (even if you don't
want them...) but then you can add comments and compress the .mhts into a
..RAR container file.

Hope this helps in some way.

Not true. I too am desperately looking for a way to change the comments on
folders, and if you share your 'My Music' folder, 'My Videos' Folder over a
network, you will see there is a pre-set comment for them (i.e. 'Contains
movies and other video files'). But for the folders I share that aren't made
by XP, like my 'Utilities' folder, you'll see '\\XFER-NATION\Utilities' in
the comment section. This leads me to believe there is a way to change
them... i wanna know how~!
