A problem with folders & files.

F

Frank Martin

I have WinXP SP3.

I download many JPEG pictures from the internet, and these
are in the form of individual files, and also folders
containing many pictures.

The folders often have pictures with the same name sequence.

How do I dump all pictures, the individual ones *and* the
ones in the folders into one master folder containing
pictures only?

Some renaming would be necessary so that the names would not
clash.

Is there software to do this, because I can't find any in
WinXP.

Please help, Frank

Try the "anti-porno-pics" software. It deletes any image remotely porno thus
freeing up a lot of real estate on your hard disk. Naturally you will then
also be able to defrag your HD which tends to need around 15 % of free real
estate to do the job.

Simple to do ...hard to explain...

Open a folder and go to...Edit / Select All...
or just select one photo and type...Ctrl+A...

Now...with all the files highlighted...right click
the first photo and from the menu...choose...
Rename.

Type a base name that might be descriptive for
the folder... Vacation ... and a number...as follows...
Vacation (10001).jpg

Now press...Enter...and windows will rename
the batch.

Vacation (10001).jpg
Vacation (10002).jpg
Vacation (10003).jpg

Enter a different base name in the next folder
and if you wish you can begin the numbers where
they ended in the first folder. Maybe the ending
filename in the first folder was:
Vacation (10303).jpg

For example: Summer Trip (10304).jpg

and windows will do the following:

Summer Trip (10304).jpg
Summer Trip (10305).jpg
Summer Trip (10306).jpg

Once all the renaming is done...you can
copy all the photos into one folder and do
a final rename for the complete collection.

Good luck.

BTW...you may want to copy some files to
a new folder and practice this task to become
familiar with it.

Thank you. I have been doing this but it's very tedious.
I have since found a thing called "ReNamer"
http://www.den4b.com/downloads.php?project=ReNamer
which does what I want, and it works OK, but is a bit
complicated.
I have managed (so far) to load many folders each with many
files into it and rename all the files, which I then
consolidate into a master folder.

I am still working to get the thing to do this
automatically.

Regards, Frank

How do you know I don't like cats, and collect squillions of
them.
