Clearing webpage history

I have tried to clear my webpage history but there are a
few sites (including google) that do not disappear from
the list. when i click the down menu button beside the
address bar there are no links shown...however, when i
type "www.g", below appears the link www.google.ca can i
get rid of this somehow?

It sounds like you have data stuck in the History folder or it's index.dat
file.
Free History Eraser from
http://smartprotector.com/eraser/free-history-eraser.htm will delete the
History folder (and the index.dat file) and a new one will be created when
you restart.
Or the History folder can be deleted manually:
