Cleanup File

Lonnie Bridges

I've been using Windows XP for about a year. However, something has
happened to the Cleanup Program that's really stumped me. When I go to
Cleanup the disk and use the program the it sits with nothing happening. It
say "Scanning: Compress old files". At first I thought I'd interfered and
didn't let it run long enough so, I let it run an hour, then nine hours ...
still it's done nothing just sitting there saying "Scanning: Compress old
files". Any help will be appreciated...Lonnie...

Try the following web sites for troubleshooting suggestions:

Visit http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm and scroll
down to Line #48. In the right-hand window, click on
"Disk Cleanup - Compress Old Files Freezes"

Simply click on Kelly's fix, download the registry fix, then run it.
(Note: Disable your antivirus program before running the repair script)

Carey is right Kellys Korner does have a solution for this issue. However I take acception to the turning off of anti-virus while installing. What should be stated is that you should disconnect from the internet and then turn off your Anti-virus software. Never under any circumstances turn off the Anti-virus while connected to the internet. It takes a microsecond to infect your system. There are no "GOOD" Anti-virus software programs that will interfere in any way with the installation of a certified program. If in fact you have blocked the activation of scripts then when it asks if you want to allow this script this one time you can choose to do so. Once again. NEVER turn your anti-virus software off while connected to the internet. Good luck.
