So is it any good? Does it provide regular updates? Is it as
effective as AVG? Does it interfer with other software?

ClamAV certainly has regular updates, which you can check/search here:
http://news.gmane.org/gmane.comp.security.virus.clamav.virusdb
http://clamav-du.securesites.net/cgi-bin/clamgrok
http://www.gietl.com/test-clamav/

For windows users, I would certainly not replace Avast! or AVG with ClamWin at
the moment, as ClamWin does not have any background on-access scanner.
This is currently being worked on, but there is no ETA date as of yet...

The 0.35.1 version of ClamWin uses ClamAV's 0.75.1 engine files and is missing
some of the "key" improvments of the latest "cutting edge" cvs version, such as
Petite, UPX, FSG, CAB, CHM unpackers.

So, I'd certainly use it as a backup scanner only to AVG/Avast! at the moment,

Hope that helps,

Steve
