This was just release this month. It can be run from pen drive or even a CD in addition to being locally installed. I just added it to my troubleshooting toolkit. ;)

ClamAV itself is a very good virus scanner.

This AV is well known in the Linux circles. It is a good AV to use on Linux mail servers for catching Windows crap. The definitions are updated more than once per day.

Please note that ClamWin Free Antivirus does not include an on-access real-time scanner, that is, you need to manually scan a file in order to detect a virus or spyware. Also, Portable ClamWin has scheduled scans and updates disabled as they are not used in a portable scenario.
Also please note, but don't let this put you off trying it out, but ...
False Positives - The current virus definition update for ClamWin has a LOT of problems with false positives (seeing viruses where there are none) in the portable apps. They are listed in known issues on the support page.
Despite this, I can highly recommend this AV ... :thumb:
