choices at startup refer to previous xp operating system load attempts - how to delete them?

I formatted my harddrive yesterday and reinstalled xp professional after
partitioning my drive and formatting it. It works great. But by mistake,
after all the files were loaded onto my harddrive from the XP Pro CD and it
was trying to boot up from the harddrive, I left the CD in thedrive and it
booted from the CD at startup instead. So of course it started walking me
through a NEW install of the operating system again from scratch. When I
realized this I canceled it, which was at the point where it asks to choose
to either partition the harddrive or choose an existing partition to load XP
on. So I quit at this stage, using the appropriate menu selection (I forget
what the choices were but I choose to not continue). Then I took the CD out
of the tray and reboted and it loaded windows xp pro for the first time
successfully and works great.

The question I have is how do I get rid of the 2nd operating system that I
STARTED to load but canceled? When I turn on the computer, it asks me WHICH
operating system I want to load (they both say windows XP) but I really only
have one complete operating system loaded. The 2nd one fails to load since I
never went through with it.

Thank You!!!
Matt

You need to alter the boot.ini file and take out the reference to the second
system. Be sure to back up a copy of the boot.ini (just in case) before you
alter it.
