Checksum Error

What is a "checksum error" message shown when booting up WindowsXP Home? A
message also stated to hit F4 for checking BIOS. I rest BIOS to default and
booting proceeded normally.

I am using an Intel Motherboard with P4 and HT, using latest BIOS.

Common cause of this is a failing m/b battery, change it.

Sound like you might need to replace your motherboard (CMOS) battery. CMOS
is a memory chip on the motherboard that saves the setting for the BIOS.
This chip is powered by the CMOS battery. BIOS setting are not being save
probably because the CMOS battery is bad.

I just had the same problem on a month old custom machine.
What motherboard are you using? Mine is a ASUS P4P800, Intel P4 3GHz HT.
The message 'Bad Bios Checksum' has occurred twice in a month. Machine runs
beautifully once I get to desktop.
When I got the message I hit reset and booted on up OK.
The cpu is at the custom builders for diagnostic testing.

My custom-built PC (see spec in original message) is less than a month old
and I had the error message only once.

A bad checksum error means that you need to replace your motherboard
battery (approx. $3.00 usd). Doesn't matter if the m/b is new - it can
happen. Shut down the machine, replace the battery, restart, go into
BIOS, set the time properly. If you did any custom fiddling around in
there, you'll need to reset it because the BIOS will now be back to
factory default settings.
