This is the message showing on booting.

"Bios checksum error
Detecting Floppy Drive A media
Driver error. System halt."
Can't go to bios. No floppy drive fitted.

Any help gratefully received. :)

Need a bit more info to help out better:

Is your system a desktop/portable?
Is it a namebrand or a clone?
How old is it?
When you boot, does it give you a "Hit del or F% key to enter setup" message?

I can give you a few pointers:

This may be one or more of these:

1 - From the sounds of it, your cmos/bios may have become corrupted. This
can be caused by voltage problems (failing power supply or power supply into
your home) and physical damage to your mainboard may or may not have occured.

2 - your mainboard battery may have died, and is reset to default bios/cmos
settings. This is why it would be good to know how old your system is. Most
batteries last 5 to 7 years in my experience, but some die sooner.

3 - Your floppy drive or cable is defective and your bios is set to halt on
all errors.

4 - Your mainboard could be toast.

5 - A multitude of other things including aggressive virii attacks and such.

BIOS errors have nothing to do with Windows.
You have a hardware problem.
Probably bad memory, possibly bad motherboard.
If your system is under warranty, call the manufacturer.
Else, visit a competent (i.e. _NOT_ a Big Box Store) computer repair
shop.

Thanks, Og & Beeker. I'll follow those suggestions.

<sigh!> I suppose every NG has one like you, rivithead. I bet your hdd
is full of little snippets like this?

And idiots who multipost all over the world continue to leave their little
pieces of crap all over the place where a simple crosspost keeps everythign
neat, indicated as read in ALL ng's after reading it once, and puts the
answers all in one place for the poster.
And then there are lazy dolts like you; netiquette and logic be damned,
you're closed minded to education., preferring to troll instead.

'nuff said.
