"Check for new messages" also -sends- messages

When I have the box checked for "Check for new messages every 10 minutes"
(Tools\Options\General), Windows Mail also -sends- my emails automatically,
even though I have not checked "send messages immediately"
(Tools\Options\Send).

I don't recall XP doing this, and I think it is a bug, not a feature. There
ought to be a way to check for email automatically without also sending.

Messages sent to the Outbox will be sent immediately if that setting is
checked or sent the next time the mail is checked.
Checking for messages can be manually or by the "Check for new messages
every 10 minutes" setting.
OE and WinMail will send first, then receive.
If you don't want the message sent, don't send to the Outbox.

I don't recall that OE worked that way, but I guess I'm getting forgetful.
I like to hold outbox messages for awhile for second thoughts, but like to
check incoming mail frequently. It's a pity the code won't permit that
degree of flexibility.

Thanks for the reality check.

Best to use the Drafts folder for that. Click on the red X when
done composing, and WLM will offer to save the message.

Are you sure it is a red X?

If you want to save them a while why not put the in Draft.
