Changing Favorites in Registry

A

ATand HMB

I have 4 computers all on XP PRO.
I have mapped drives to the Favorites folder on my most used computer.
When I change the path to the mapped drive letter (X:), on the other
computers the change is accepted OK. I come out of the Registry and go back
in again to confirm new setting which is OK. However when I use Favorites it
reverts back to old setting.
I have rebooted immediately after a change, but the result is the same.
I have been successful on only one occasion in about a dozen attempts, but
don't know why that effort worked when it was actioned in exactly the same
way as the others.
Help (with examples if possible) would be appreciated.

The "Shell folders" key is obselete, and it's still there because of
backward compatibility only. Still the old applications such as MSINFO32 and
other depend on the the "shell folders" information. If you want to relocate
the favorites, alter the location under "User Shell Folders" key. That would
be enough in Windows XP.

Many thanks for prompt reply.
May I ask, what is the difference between Shell and User Shell in registry?
