changing circuit city activation code

I bought a laptop from Circuit City yesterday. It had been a demonstrator so
they had activated xp on it. I want to re-activate it in my name so I can
get rid of the circuit city user profile. I would appreciate any help.

Thanks.

Control Panel, User Accounts, select the profile, change the user name
and password.

That does not work for the profile that activated XP. That's my problem. I
can add or delete any other profile but not the ccity one. Even if I log on
as an administrator on another profile, XP prevents me from deleting the
ccity profile.

I can rename the user profile. However, even with the name change, the user
in documents and settings is still ccity

I recommend you use whatever procedure the laptop came with to restore it to
the factory condition. You have no idea what is on the computer now. There
could be malware, illegal porn, private information, who knows what. Most
brand name laptops use a BIOS locked version of XP that doesn't need to be
activated. Even if you do have to activate after restoring it the worst that
will happen is you have to make a phone call to a toll free number.

Well, I was thinking that might be the route to go. I was hoping there was an
easier way, even though I have checked it for viruses, spyware and bots,
you're probably right. Thanks.
