Changes revert back to layout default -- why?

I changed a bulleted list in a ppt text box, deleting the bullets. Saved the
file. When the file's reopened, all the formatting has reverted back to the
slide layout. Why?

This appears to be an occasional bug. It's happened me to many times, but
seems to be happening more as of late.

Anyway, what was recommended to me on this board is this:

If you do change the style of that master text box (by changing a bullet,
etc.), then duplicate the text box on the slide and delete the original text
box which is linked to the master. Move the copy into place and now you have
a text box beholden to nothing.

Well, this was actually happening to someone else, and I was hoping it was
something really obvious I was missing. A bug??!!! Hrmph!
