CDs and mp3 files skip in WMP

I have a new ASUS P4P800 Deluxe system (w/onboard audio chipset) that i
exhibiting an annoying trait - audio CDs and mp3s skip at least once pe
track. I've read around and found this is a somewhat common issue. On
fix is supposed to be to turn off digital audio for the CD player, bu
that hasn't made an impact (anyways the mp3 files are running from th
HDD where the CD player isn't involved). This is the latest ver of th
Windows Media Player running on Windows XP. I'm starting to suspect tha
something is going on with the SoundMax software that is loaded a
startup. The SoundMax stuff came with the P4P800 motherboard and I kno
little about it. Can anyone shed light on what the issue may be here?

SoundMax is just one of the two drivers that can be used
(at least this is this case with my Intel MB) - have a
look on the website for your MB.
