MP3 Playback in WMP 9

Hi!

I went to play my MP3s today as usual using windows media
player 9. I noticed that after 3 seconds the pitch of the
music lowered. It does this with every MP3, but not .wma
files. Ive played the MP3s through mplayer2.exe and they
playback perfectly. Also through other media players such
as Creative MediaSource. What is causing this distortion
in MP3 playback and what can i do to sort it out?

Ive tried reinstalling wmp 9 but this hasnt worked.
