CD-RW with XP

Hi:
I successfully transferred one of e-mails from my computer to another
by using CR-RW writer which came with XP.

Afterwards, I attempted to save another e-mail on the same/used CDRW.
However, the CDRW does NOT take another e-mail,
.... a box popping up 'CDRW is full,' although the CD-RW has plenty
of space to write and save.

I wonder whether the CD-RW came with XP takes 'one at a time' basis,
.... even a tiny e-mail message not to able to write/save the same and used
CD-RW?

Thanks,

When you burn a CD even though it is a CDRW you will not be able to
burn to it again unless you use software that allows you to utilize the
CD like a removable storage drive such as a floppy drive. When the burn
is complete XP "closes" the CD which causes the error even though it
has plenty of space left. If you notice when you look at the available
space on a CD it will represent how much data is on the CD.

You will need to create a multi session CD when you want to burn to it
more than one time..

Eh? XP includes a built-in CD-R burner, but does not include any CD-RW
software.

You'd need third-party software to use a CD-RW. That software should
have a command somewhere to erase the current contents of the disk.

I've never tried that option, but if you get Nero 6 or later
(I have Nero 6.6), you can get it on eBay or on Amazon. I
got mine on Amazon for $5.

The multi-session option is the default; however, I cannot
speak to whether it works, as don't remember ever trying
it.

I seem to recall VAGUELY trying to add files to a cd with
Nero, and it didn't work. Might have been Nero 5.5, which
was crap.

I'll try it today and let you know. I'm burning CDs today
anyway.

Good luck!

Strange, my Win XP Pro can do that with its own software. Here's the how-to
from the Windows help file:

To erase files from a CD

1.. Open My Computer.
2.. Double-click the CD recording drive. Windows displays the files and
folders located on the CD.
3.. Under CD Writing Tasks, click Erase this CD-RW. Windows displays the
CD Writing Wizard.
4.. Follow the instructions in the wizard to delete the files on the
CD-RW.
Notes

a.. To open My Computer, double-click the My Computer icon on the desktop.
b.. Erasing the CD deletes all the files on the CD; you cannot select
individual files to delete.
c.. Not all CDs are erasable. If the CD you are using is not erasable, for
example, a CD-R, then this feature is not available.
