CD-Rewritable problem

Disclaimer:
I don't know whether the problem I have is due to my CD Writer drive or with
Windows XP. I needed some help and that's why I posted here.

I am unable to write Rewritable CDs using any software - inbuilt Windows CD
writing, Nero, Windows MediaPlayer, Winamp, Real... anything.

First I thought there was a problem with the CD-RW. But this problem
continued with three other CD-RWs.

Then I thought there was a defect with the manufacturing. But of the 3
CD-RWs, two are from TDK and one from Sony.

I was able to burn once or twice, some time ago, with one of the TDK CR-RWs,
but ever since, I am unable to burn anything into these discs.

The number of discs I am unable to burn to is growing!

Can anyone tell me what or where the problem is? Hardware, Software?

Any help will be useful.

Thanks.

You could try right clicking on the drive, select properties, select the
recording tab and see if their is a tick in ' Enable CD Recording on this
Drive '.

Try just using one program, after all the rest of them have been
"uninstalled".

I may be going to take some heat for this suggestion;
however, these days, CD burners are extremely el cheapo to
replace. I paid like $65 for my first one some 6 years ago.
It was a 4 X. I paid something like $50 for the external 52
X usb one I got a couple of years ago (for installs; one of
my cottage industry jobs is installing other people's
computers.)
I paid something like $15.95 a couple of months ago for a
brand new 52 X, and it was so cheap, I bought my son one,
too.

You might also want to be sure you have the latest Nero, at
LEAST 6.0. I got a licensed (w key) copy of Nero 6.6.0.5
from Amazon.com for $5 + $2 for shipping.

AT those prices, I say you can't beat a new device.

My problem with my CD burner, btw, was that -- although new
when I purchased it a couple of years ago, it got to where
it took forever to burn a backup of my data (and I have
EASILY 60 to 75 data CDs.) half the time, I ended up having
to burn it 3 times to get ONE good backup. It also got to
where I couldn't backup my brand new software CDs. I have
this philosophy that when I buy new software, I install it
ONCE to be sure it is ok, and then I burn a copy. After
that, I ONLY use the copy. If the copy wears out (they do),
I burn another copy. I ONLY use the master for the original
install and for making backups.

Hope that helps.

Good luck!

Read and using instruction form the links below. Were you using another
writing software before? Check the second link first. Try writing at a
slower speed than the disk is rated for.

Xlent suggestions, however, I would GUESS that he needs a
new burner, and updated s/w.

Both are DIRT cheap these days.

Good luck!
