CD makes computer shut down

What would make my computer shut down and reboot when I try to burn a cd
on a Toshiba laptop running XP. When I looked at Administrative tools I
found this error "The driver detected a controller error on
\Device\CdRom0" I put the cd in the drive and right after I drag the
file to copy it to the disk, the computer completely shuts down, boots
back up whole screen is blue, not enough time to read what it says and
then a microsoft screen comes up saying "your computer has recovered
from serious error, do you want to send a report" have sent the report,
but found out nothing. Can anyone help me out here?? Please???

You have a non-Windows hardware problem of one of three types:
1. The ribbon cable between the drive and the motherboard is loose.
Remove the cover from your computer and check to see that all
connections are firm.
2. The controller built into the CD ROM drive is dying/has died.
3. The controller built into the motherboard is dying/has died.
Most likely is #2.
Least likely is #3.
If your CD drive is on the SAME controller as your hard drive, #2 is
unlikely.
