Can't view java applets

Hi,
When I try to load Java applets, such as online crosswords
from newspaper sites, online games from Yahoo, or live
gamecasts on espn.com, the program doesn't load. Instead,
where the program should be I just see a blank screen and
in the upper left corner is a little box with a red
square, green circle, and blue triangle. The applet
doesn't even start downloading. I used to be able to view
these applets. I have windows 98 and IE 6.0. When I
checked the cache after trying to load the applet I saw
this: ?CodeDownloadErrorLog!name=
{416945A8E-6414-11D4-8FB3-00D0B7730277}. I have Java
enabled.

Does anyone know what happened and how this can be
fixed?
