Can't Standby or Shut down

Hi
I am having a problem. I installed Windows SP2 for my
Windows XP and now I can't get the computer to standby or
shut down.
When I go to >Start >Turn Off Computer, the Standby Icon
is grayed out and can't be used. Then When I go >shut
down, it goes through the process of shutting down, but
never does and the screen "windows is shuting down" stays
up.
How can I fix this problem. Any help would be great.
Thanks
Towdog

Thanks for the help. It led me to find out that my
Logitech Mouse software was causing the problem. I
uninstalled that software, used a different mouse and all
is well again. That is what I get for buying a mouse at
a garage sale : )

There should not be any problem with a Logitech mouse, *provided* you
get the up to date drivers for it that work with XP. In a garage sale
who knows? Proper drivers at

and look for a reasonable approximation to yours; maybe Other at the
bottom if it is not cordless or optical
