Can't set up a dial up connection

When I try to set up a new dial-up internet connection, the
internet connection wizard works fine until screen 4, where
I find that the dial-up is grayed and inaccessible. I have
checked the modem and it pings just fine. The problem
seems to be in XP. Any sugfgestions.
