can't send mail?

G

Graham

Hello and thanks in advance for any reply.

I am unable to send email form windows mail on vista.
The problem started this morning.

I have had a long day with the procedure on Vistax64
I have reset windows mail several times
and used WMutil151 fix.

I have downloaded and installed the windows live mail beta.
Nothing seems to work ..I have norton antivirus.
I see posts about mcaphee.
Is Norton also bad for windows mail.

Should I uninstall norton.?

And can anyone suggest an alternative virus software

This PC with windows Xp and norton is unafected.

Any help will be gratefully received

Regards Graham

I have the same problem which also started today. I do not run Norton or
McAfee.
The problem must lie somewhere else. We are not alone with this problem, is
your ISP BT Yahoo? Everyone with this problem seems to be with BT as I am. If
you get any positive results please let us know.

Both Norton and McAfee antivirus are incompatible with Windows Mail
and would need to be uninstalled. Replace with a compatible antivirus
like the free version of Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

If after uninstalling Norton, your mail still doesn't work,
recreate that mail account from scratch, then delete the existing
account. Norton has a nasty habit of corrupting mail accounts.

If it still doesn't work, copy the error message and post it here.

Norton is fine with Windows Mail, well in my experience anyway.

I cannot send e-mails today. this is the first time it has happened. I
first starting using windows mail in April this year.

The problem would appear to our ISP.

Good luck!

When you fail to have your problem solved by your ISP
perhaps you'll reconsider your rejection of tried and tested
advice.

I can send emails from a pc with bt

The most likely cause is a BT server malfunction, since several other
BT customers are suddenly having the same problem.
I would not be too complacent about Norton AV, though. Sometimes
it takes a couple of months before the problems start.

Norton works for me. All the people posting recently have BT accounts. At
this stage I will consider the amount of postings from BT customers here and
in a BT support group.

If this is a fruitless exercise, more fool me.

The consistency in the posts seems to be our ISP.

Maybe I am wrong, of all the people currently having problems sending and
are on a BT account, who has Norton software?

there are recent posts in bt.broadband.support also, although no answers
yet. I only quickly read the posts. I think one post mentioned a error
message on the BT support website.

First... Make sure you are not using Norton or McAfee anti virus
software. They are not compatible with Vista (no matter what Space says).

When you have uninstalled them, rebooted and recreated
your email account, if it still doesn't work
post the full error message.

It has worked fine for many people until it screwed them.

I'm using BT fine, but then I'm not using the proven incompatible
Norton antivirus.

I don't care. I wash my hands of you.

you're too funny!

seriously, my question re other Norton users was to try to establish the
common links to the problem.
a bt accounts
b Norton software
c both

we can all accept the facts when there is enough evidence.

I'll ask again - For all Bt accounts holders having problems sending
e-mails. Do we all have the same virus software? I use Norton.

Graham, I hope you question is answered. I will check in for follow ups to
see how this was resolved.

For me, I will send my e-mails by another means for the time being.
