I know I'm a dope. Know it's my problem, but still can't figure it out.
Can't send messages.
Get this error message: Subject 'fax', Account: 'pop.mail.yahoo.com',
Server: 'mail.btinternet.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '250
8BITMIME', Port: 587, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 250, Error Number:
0x800CCC7D

I have a BT internet account and my working email account is set up
with SSL unchecked.

Tools > Accounts > your email > Properties > Advanced >
uncheck both SSL boxes.

Also get rid of Norton or McAfee AVs if you have either.

Thanks, anyway. I've fooled around with this all day, and I still can't
send. I get different error messages now that i've tried what you suggested.
I give up. I just won't use Windows Mail. It just seems a shame that the
program comes with the computer, and it's unusable.

It's not unusable... millions use it.

What's the new message?

And what, pray tell, is this different error message?

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled.

New error message:
Account: 'pop.mail.yahoo.com', Server: 'mail.btinternet.com', Protocol:
POP3, Server Response: '-ERR Error logging in. Please visit
http://mail.yahoo.com', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90,
Error Number: 0x800CCC92

I don't have Norton, I don't have McAfee. I have Trend, which also came
with the computer, and should be usable. I don't have it set to scan email,
either in or out, so that shouldn't be the problem, right?

I do believe that Julian meant for you to change the Outgoing(SMTP), not the
incoming server.

Some people using Trend have had problems and I don't follow
your logic when you say "which also came with the computer,
and should be usable." Personally I would test that theory by
removing it, delete and recreate the account within windows mail
and testing the send.

BUT!!!!!!!!!!! The message you post here this time has nothing
to do with sending mail... it is a POP ie. receiving error!

Please post your SENDING error for analysis.

BTW the spyware element is also superfluous as Vista
has a perfectly adequate free function called Windows defender.

All these paid for security tools are at best a waste of money.

Actually both POP and SMTP have SSL(No) on my BT account.
Mind you... I am struggling to keep up with his logic
and flip flopping from one issue to another.

I'm done. I'm too tired, and too old to mess with this anymore. I'm sorry I
asked, I've just been confused more. I'm outa here.
