Can't Send emails

Most versions of the Norton antivirus software tend to cause such problems,
although seldom immediately. So do most versions of the McAfee antivirus
software and a recent version from Trend. Any of these need to uninstalled,
not disabled, to keep them from occasionally adding new problems. You
should also run the following program for more cleanup:

<http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039>

You may also need to remove your email account under Windows Mail, then
create it again for more cleanup.

For your Outbox problem, download and install this fix, with Windows Mail
not running:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in
other
folders. If you don't know whether to use the 32-bit version or the 64-bit
version, try the 32-bit version first.

If this fixes your problems, you may want a replacement antivirus program.
I recommend either avast! or AVG, either one with a custom install that
tells it to leave out the part that scans email.

I am having the exact same problem that many of you have and now I'm going to
confuse you further. I don't have Charter as my internet provider and mine
provider is Cox and I don't use Norton Protection so now can anyone say what
the problem is all of a sudden with all of us? I could send and receive
email last night with Windows mail without a problem but when I turned on the
computer today I have no problem receiving mail but I am unable to send out
any mail. I've checked all my settings and they are right and now I hear
that many of you are having the same problem so what gives? Have we all been
attacked by some bug? Desperately need help because our email is a big part
of our home business. Can anyone offer a solution. I've already tried the
solutions mentioned here but none have worked.

If you get an error message, please post it here. Right-click on it, select
Copy, then paste it into a reply.

It worked! Now I wish I knew why the heck it happened. Was it an automatic
update from Microsoft that messed all of us up? I would love to know how
this happened so suddenly so that maybe it won't happen again. Thank you for
sending me the link to the fix for it.

More likely an automatic update from an antivirus or other security program.
What if any such programs do you have? Some of them tend to cause assorted
problems in Windows Mail, although seldom immediately.

I am having the same problem as many others. It just started. I am in Canada,
and use BEll as a provider. I can send emails, but there is one stuck in my
out box and I cannot send emails at all. Someone suggested that the email in
the out box is corrupted. Could this be some kind of virus? I am using
Windows Vista Basic on my laptop? Has anyone come up with a solution?
I am kind of new to these chats.

Yes, the solution has been posted here every day for the past five months:
Try this Microsoft fix:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090
"Messages may be stuck in the Outbox when you use Windows Mail on a
computer that is running Windows Vista"

That page offers two download options. Unless you know for sure
you have 64-bit Vista, use the 32-bit option.

This exact same problem cleared up for me on its own as of about 9:20 PM EST
yesterday (1/31). I did absolutely nothing to fix this, no updates to my
setup, nothing. The problem just went away as mysteriously as it showed up. I
still don't know what caused it by my Charter e-mail is now working
propertly. Go figure.

G

Gary VanderMolen

Well, as we surmised, it was probably a Charter mail server problem.
Server blocking actions against specific users typically time out in 24 hours.

Is (e-mail address removed) the sender or the recipient?
If that is the intended recipient, do you get the same error message
when trying to send to other recipients?

I also cannot send emails but do receive okay. Here is the message I
get:The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not
be correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read
the "I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help
determining the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail
service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject 'ss',
Account: 'mail.bresnan.net', Server: 'mail.bresnan.net', Protocol: SMTP,
Server Response: '573 (e-mail address removed) unknown user account', Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 573, Error Number: 0x800CCC78. I have on
the phone with my provider and check everything from their end. Anyone
have any idea's?

Bob

The server name is missing from your error message, and we often
need it to offer much help. Did you set the server name?

Dave

Perhaps you are entering an incorrect username or password...
Can you log into the webmail ok?

One of the versions should have installed, provided you are using Vista and
Windows Mail.

My server is bresnan.net, tried downloading both versions (32 & 64 ) and
said dose not apply to my system on both. Also downloaded Incredi Mail
and still have same problem of not being able to send and mail gets left
in out box.

Bob

Here are some instructions on how to send your outgoing mail
through bresnan.net. They were written for Outlook Express,
but should also work under Windows Mail.

This assumes bresnan.net is your internet provider, since
connections to port 25 that cross from one internet provider's
equipment to another are often blocked to cause trouble for
spammers.

<http://www.equinewebmarketing.com/clients/knowledgebase.php?action=displayarticle&catid=1&id=9>

You can leave your incoming email server and your return
address as they are now, since they already work.

G

Gary VanderMolen

Is (e-mail address removed) a valid account on the bresnan.net server?
For anonymity reasons, some people try to send with a pseudonym,
which not all ISPs will accept.

Is your laptop at the same location, and using the same Internet
connection as your desktop XP system?

G

Gary VanderMolen

Probably just a coincidence. I see no relationship between sending
mail and Adobe Reader.

Me is the sender. I get the same error message no matter what address I
try to send an email. My problem is with my lap top but may desk top
(xp system) works fine using the same email system and address. Thanks,

Bob

Somewhere on the laptop you have your username or email address typed
incorrectly.

Perhaps a comma where a period should be?
