Can't send emails from Vista - Frustrated..!

Ian Hughes

I've read a number of equally frustrated emails on this subject....

Does anyone have a solution ?

This is my error message

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'test', Account:
'pop3.blueyonder.co.uk', Server: 'smtp.blueyounder.co.uk', Protocol: SMTP,
Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Are you still connected via a Virgin Media internet connection? Most ISPs
will block traffic to any SMTP server other than their own.

If you're recently changed ISP you'll need to reconfigure your outgoing
server to the new ISP's outgoing server. If you want to keep your
blueyonder address you can leave the incoming server as it is.

If you haven't changed ISP then there's a different problem. Maybe Virgin
have changed something their end, or maybe your firewall is blocking it.
Temporary disabling your firewall will confirm if the latter is the problem.

If none of this works (and if you have to resort to phoning Virgin's
£1-per-minute support line you have my deepest sympathies) then hopefully
some more knowledgeable people on this newsgroup will chip in....

This may be of some help. You have to set up your e-mail through Microsoft
in windows. I still haven't figured out the spell checking aspect yet but
atleast you will be able to send e-mails. I hope this helps.

Windows Mail comes with the default language partly set to English,
but not enough for spelling checks in English to work. To fix this,
click on Tools, then Options, then Spelling, then the triangle to the
right of English, then some other language, then Apply, then the
triangle again, then English, then Apply, then OK.
