This just started the other day after having Vista for over a year. I can
receive email but can't send. Anyone know what I can do? Thanks, Mark

What you can do is post any error messages you get, plus any other details
about the problem...most of us are terrible mind readers.

Also try to move all messages in your Outbox to the Drafts Folder,
or delete them. Let us know if any refuse to do either.

Hi Hal, this is the error message I've been receiving.

Subject 'test', Account: 'mail.comcast.net', Server: 'smtp.comcast.net',
Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19

Thanks again, Mark

I don't have any problem moving the messages from my out box, or even
deleting them.

Thanks, Mark

Comcast has changed the outgoing port number, apparently without
notifying affected users. In the Advanced tab of that account's properties,
change port 25 to 587. Then go to the Servers tab and make sure that
"My server requires authentication" is checked.

That worked, Thanks Gary.

Oh, please, please help me.
I've just set up a new windows mail account and I have exactly the same
issue. I can receive email but I can't send it!! It's driving me crazy!
I'm with ATT and have VISTA.

Thank you in advance......:)

It would have been helpful if you had included the error message you get
when you try sending.

Make sure the settings of your AT&T account in your Windows Mail
agree with this:

If after correcting your settings you still get an error message,
right-click on your error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here.

I can no longer send email.......

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject 'Fw:
Great Deals on Laptops and Accessories starting today!', Account:
'incoming.verizon.net', Server: 'outgoing.verizon.net', Protocol: SMTP,
Server Response: '550 5.7.1 Authentication Required', Port: 25, Secure(SSL):
No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC78

To avoid confusion, please begin a new thread about your specific problems.
State your IE version and full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; Vista SP2)
in your first post. Also tell us if you've EVER been able to send using
those settings. (I doubt it.)

Make sure you have send authentication enabled.
Go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties, Servers.
Enable the "My server requires authentication" option.
